Microsoft confirmed the purchase of GitHub – the service for storing, distributing and managing the source code of IT projects.
“After the transaction is completed, as Microsoft’s official blog informs, Nat Friedman will become the CEO of GitHub, who is known, among others, as the founder of Xamarin”, according to the publication, finance.ua reports.
The details of the transaction, including its amount, are not revealed in Microsoft’s message. According to Bloomberg sources, Microsoft purchases GitHab for $7.5 billion. The transaction will be fully conducted through exchange of shares.
On June 3, several U.S. media reported that Microsoft is preparing to purchase GitHub. According to their data, the negotiations were held for several years with different intensity. Mass media sources did not specify the amount of the deal, CNBC supposed that GitHub can be estimated at $5 billion.
