Google and HTC companies signed the cooperation agreement, Ain.ua reports.
The deal, under which some HTC’s employees will relocate to Google, is assessed at 1.1 billion dollars: U.S. tech giant will pay in cash.
HTC has been long working jointly with Google on creation of Nexus and Pixel smartphones. In fact, Google bought this team, which will work on a regular basis on creation of products for U.S. corporation.
For Google, it is important in view of a new strategy, under which the company wants to fully control the development of not only software, but also hardware, TechCrunch reports.
All HTC’s business remains with it. The company will continue to create smartphones under HTC trademark, as well as will work on its VR-headset Vive.
Under HTC agreement, Google also transferred the right to use its patents, but it is not an exclusive agreement. The Taiwanese company also needs this deal due to financial issues: they emerged due to poor sales of smartphones.
Google purchases the mobile business not for the first time: previously, it purchased Motorola Mobility.
